Description:
This was a test for my short animation 'Rendezvous' to see how the background would look in motion. It was also used as a color/lighting test. For the final animation I tweaked the lighting and color of the scene a bit for a more saturated look.

Description:
An opening credit sequence I created in Toon Boom Studio for a romantic film by director Cohen Phillips. The hardest thing in this animation was to have to animate in a different drawing style. I learned a lot about animating human looking characters though.

This was created for a website called DVD.nl that I used to write for. They had a booth at the Dutch HCC Convention in November 2003. Along with a few HDTV demos this animation was playing on a big LCD display. It is made up out of about 50 clips from old and new movies to show the audience the plethora of reviews to be found at DVD.nl's website.

Before abandoning this project because of technical limits at the time, I created this teaser trailer for it. It was going to be called 'One of a Kind' and the eyes of the character (Sprout) you see in the trailer are still used to this day in the ZeroDown animation logo. Maybe one day...

I had this idea once to do a short animation set under water. This test was done to see if I could create a nice looking underwater environment. My underpowered computer, and the technical complexity of 3D water effects were the main reasons for putting the project on hold indefinitely. This test alone took way too long to render, so I had to abandon this idea. At least it made for a nice screensaver. ;-)

This logo is almost identical to the version I still use today (the eye texture got prettier over the years, but that's about it). The eyes are the same ones I built for 'Sprout', a character I wanted to use for a short animation. 'Sprout' is the weird yellow dude you can see in the 'One of a Kind' teaser on this page.

About a year after the first version of my logo (see below) I had learned a lot about 3D animation. So I decided to create a more complicated version of the ZeroDown animation logo. Some elements are still used today in the logo. This was also the first time I changed the 'D' to a capital letter.
Little know fact: the sound effect you hear when the letters 'ZeroDown' beam down is actually a highly distorted sample of me sneezing into the microphone.

In 2000 I decided to create all my animations under the pseudonym 'ZeroDown animation'. So I created a logo. If I remember correctly, this was created in an early version of Swift 3D. A little known fact: the low chord in the soundtrack is a sample taken from the game 'Final Fantasy VII'. Also, the main font used is called 'Bauhaus 93'. The other font is a squashed version of Comic Sans.

This was one of my first experiments creating an animated logo. It's mainly a test to see how I could create a mood using lighting and sound. The name 'Anti-Soma' was the name of a band one of my friends drummed for at the time.
A little know fact: the sound of the light exploding was sampled from the thriller movie 'The Game' by director David Fincher. Check that one out if you haven't yet...
