A cartoon version of Mr. Right, smiling at the camera.I made this short animation for the 2009 season finale of ‘Mr. Right’, an item in the very popular Dutch children’s programme ‘Schooltv-Weekjournaal’. In it, the host, called ‘Mr. Right’ talks about how to make your own comics in an easy way for kids to understand. At the end he’s magically transformed into an animated version of himself.

The animation was based on the original voice from a green screen take of Mr. Right, provided to me by Teleac. I then used the audio to do the lip-sync and took little ques from the video to see how he should walk/strut. The whole process, from design to animation was about 2 to 3 weeks. After that it had to be edited in the show. A hard disk crash in the middle of production almost made me miss that deadline.

The background is painted digitally in Pixelmator, a very cool application on the Mac. The little bird and Mr. Right himself were animated in ‘Toon Boom Studio’. Everything was drawn directly on the Mac using a Wacom Intuos tablet. So not a single piece of paper was harmed during the production of this clip. Enjoy!
